AARP Prevention Guide

The AARP Bulletin March/April 2025 "Who is Targeting You Now?" contains the AARP Prevention Guide for the most recent scams that are being generated by Artificial Intelligence "AI". Fraud 2025 informs us about how AI has supercharged classic cons.

There are five new-and-improved scams to watch for in 2025.

1. Tech Chatbots -often starts with a pop-up saying your computer has a virus and providing a link or fake phone number that allows the scammer to access your computer and all of your information. New wrinkle - using AI, foreign scammers can write convincing emails and use social media to gather personal data to build convincing stories ,

2. Card declined notifications - consummers credit card gets declined so they try another card which also gets declined, but charges are being made for other products unknown to the consumer. New wrinkle - scammers are mimicking popular companies, like AAA, and offering a free product if you take a survey and only pay for shipping. The credit card gets declined and the scammer uses the card to make other purchases.
